Use a Prefix List for Route Redistribution
To pass traffic through a configured prefix list, you must use the prefix list in a route redistribution
command. The prefix list is applied to all traffic redistributed into the routing process and the traffic is
either forwarded or dropped depending on the criteria and actions specified in the prefix list.
To apply a filter to routes in RIP, use either of the following commands in ROUTER RIP mode:

show config command in the ROUTER RIP mode (Figure 5-19) or the
show running-config rip command in EXEC mode.

To apply a filter to routes in OSPF, use either of the following commands in ROUTER OSPF mode:
Command Syntax Command Mode Purpose
router rip
CONFIGURATION Enter RIP mode
distribute-list prefix-list-name in [interface]
CONFIG-ROUTER-RIP Apply a configured prefix list to incoming
routes. You can specify an interface.
If you enter the name of a non-existent prefix
list, all routes are forwarded.
distribute-list prefix-list-name out [interface |
connected | static | ospf]
CONFIG-ROUTER-RIP Apply a configured prefix list to outgoing
routes. You can specify an interface or type
of route.
If you enter the name of a non-existent prefix
list, all routes are forwarded.
Command Syntax Command Mode Purpose
router ospf
CONFIGURATION Enter OSPF mode
distribute-list prefix-list-name in
[interface]
CONFIG-ROUTER-OSPF Apply a configured prefix list to incoming
routes. You can specify an interface.
If you enter the name of a non-existent prefix
list, all routes are forwarded.
distribute-list prefix-list-name out
[connected | rip | static]
CONFIG-ROUTER-OSPF Apply a configured prefix list to incoming
routes. You can specify which type of routes
are affected.
If you enter the name of a non-existent prefix
list, all routes are forwarded.
