Accept closures of trails and cycling bans
and nature or wildlife protection zones as
such requirements are justified.
Except in emergency situations, do not
brake with locked wheels to avoid soil
erosion and path damage.
Drive in a controlled and attentive man-
ner at an appropriate speed. You must be
able to stop within the range of vision of
obstacles, other bikers or pedestrians at
any time!
Make yourself known in time if you want
to pass other people on the paths. Do not
frighten them and ride past them slow or
come to a stop.
Be considerate of grazing animals and
animals in the woods and fields. Do not
leave pasture fences open once you have
passed them, and do not ride through the
woods after dusk to avoid disturbing ani-
mals as they feed and rest.
Do not leave litter behind.
Keep body parts and clothing away from
chainrings, the running chain, and rotat-
ing pedals, cranks, and wheel set.
Wear light-colored, high-visibility clothing
that is cut tight enough to avoid snagging
on moving parts of the bike or objects on
the road or trail.
Plan your rides well and pay attention to
the weather forecasts. Properly assess
your abilities, take them into account
when choosing a route and take appropri-
ate equipment with you, including tools,
provisions and a first aid kit for unfore-
seen situations.
4 Safety
4.1 Safety notices
Observe the safety notices listed here to
avoid general hazards when using and han-
dling your e-bike.
To prevent hazards when riding your
e-bike:
Do not use your e-bike until you have
familiarized yourself with its handling and
functions.
Observe the information on intended use
for your e-bike.
Adjust your cycling style and speed to
current weather conditions and road char-
acteristics.
On icy, wet, slippery or dirty roads, allow
for increased braking distance and
reduced tire traction.
Check your e-bike before each use (see
chapter 7.1 “Before each ride”). Pay par-
ticular attention to cracks, scores, dam-
age or color changes on the components.
Always make sure that safety-related
equipment
11
is correctly adjusted and
functional.
Do not make any unauthorized modifica-
tions or repairs to your e-bike.
Always have damage to the e-bike
repaired by a FLYER specialist dealer
and always replace damaged compo-
nents with suitable original spare parts.
Have your e-bike checked by a FLYER
specialist dealer if your e-bike has been
subjected to excessive stress and if you
have had an accident or fall (see chapter
7.4 “After a fall”).
Check your e-bike regularly and follow
the inspection schedule (see chapter 7
“Checks and inspections”).
Do not wear loose pants, dresses or skirts
that can get caught in moving parts. Alter-
natively, make sure that loose clothing
cannot get caught (e.g. with trouser clips).
Make sure that no ribbons, shoelaces,
etc. that can get caught in moving parts
are hanging down.
Wear shoes with non-slip soles to avoid
slipping off the pedal while pedaling.
To avoid hazards due to the unfamiliar
handling of your new e-bike:
Do not underestimate the change in han-
dling characteristics of e-bikes compared
to bicycles without electric drives.
Initially, practice riding your e-bike or typ-
ical cycling situations, such as starting,
braking, negotiating curves, and turning.
11 The safety-related equipment particularly includes the
brakes.
