6.2 Getting to know your
e-bike
Familiarize yourself with the cycling charac-
teristics and handling of your new e-bike on
a safe terrain without road traffic.
Note the different handling of an e-bike
compared to a bicycle without an electric
drive.
The higher weight of an e-bike makes it
especially difficult to park, lift and carry or
push uphill.
Familiarize yourself with the brake char-
acteristics and learn how to assign the
brake handles to the front or rear brake.
Please refer to the information in
chapter 14 “Brakes”.
Familiarize yourself with the functions of
the control element.
For information on your control ele-
ment, refer to the associated manufactur-
er's instructions.
If you ride with clipless/system pedals:
Make a functional test. The pedals must
release smoothly and easily.
Familiarize yourself with its use on
safe terrain without road traffic.
For pedals with a rubber or plastic coat-
ing: Familiarize yourself with the hold on
the pedals. Especially in wet conditions,
these pedals can become very slippery.
7 Checks and inspections
7.1 Before each ride
Check the following points before each ride:
Are all control elements and the bell
securely fastened and easily accessible?
Do the brakes and gear shift work?
Also check the hydraulic lines and
their connections for leaks.
Are handlebars, handlebar stem, seat
post and saddle properly adjusted and
securely fastened?
Is the wheel set undamaged and securely
fastened? Does the wheel set rotate in a
centered manner (without wobbling)?
Is the air pressure of the tires correct?
Information on the correct tire pres-
sure can be found in chapter 19 “Wheel
sets and tires”.
Is the battery sufficiently charged for the
planned ride? Is the battery inserted or
attached correctly?
For information on the battery, refer to
the corresponding manufacturer's man-
ual for your electric drive.
Is the kickstand folded in and properly
engaged?
If the kickstand does not engage
properly, do not ride the e-bike. Have the
kickstand checked by a FLYER specialist
dealer and, if necessary, adjusted/fas-
tened correctly.
Are all quick-releases, quick-release
axles, bolts and nuts correctly and com-
pletely closed or fastened?
A table with important screw connec-
tions and the prescribed torques can be
found in the applicable Technical Data
document.
i
Important: Check the secure fit of
all quick releases and quick-release
axles, even if your e-bike was only
briefly unattended. You may only
drive off when all quick releases are
tightly closed. Information on the
correct use of quick releases and
quick-release axles can be found in
chapters 21 “Quick releases” and
22 “Quick-release axles”.
7.2 After each ride
Check the following points after each ride:
Are the frame and all components in per-
fect condition?
Pay particular attention to cracks and
other visible damage.

foreign objects and sufficient tread depth.
