●
If DIMMs with dif
ferent ranks are installed on one CPU socket, follow
memory module population order.
●
When single-rank, dual-rank and quad-rank DIMMs are populated for 2DPC,
always populate the higher number rank DIMM first (starting from the
farthest slot), for example, first quad-rank, then dual-rank, and last single-
rank DIMM.
●
Assembling DIMMs should start from high to low capacity at first. Example:
32 GB first, then 16 GB and then 8 GB.
●
If only one DIMM is populated in a channel, then populate it in the slot
furthest away from CPU.
The notation of the CPUs, memory channels, and DIMM sockets
correspond to the silk print on system board.
▶
On CPU 1, the memory channels are named A, B, C, D, E, F
▶
On CPU 2, the memory channels are named G, H, J, K, L, M
▶
On CPU 3, the memory channels are named N, P
, Q, R, S, T
▶
On CPU 4, the memory channels are named U, V, W, X, Y, Z
10.2.3 Modes of operation
10.2.3.1 Independent Channel mode
Independent Channel mode with identical DIMMs - 2 CPUs populated
●
Same letter represents identical DIMMs (capacity, rank).
●
Use a "balanced" platform configuration:
– all available memory channels populated equally
– identical DIMMs in all locations (size/speed/rank)
●
Marked (*) quantity of DIMMs are not recommended because of unbalanced
configurations.
●
Unbalanced configurations can lead to significantly reduced bandwidth
because the system will fracture the memory space into multiple regions.
