14 IPv6 Multicast Routing Management
About This Chapter
The system synchronously maintains multiple multicast routing protocols, and controls multicast
routing and forwarding through the information exchanged between the control plane and the
forwarding plane.
14.1 Overview of IPv6 Multicast Routing Management
The system maintains a protocol routing table, multicast routing table, and multicast forwarding
table for multicast routing and forwarding. A multicast routing protocol creates multicast routing
entries through RPF.
14.2 IPv6 Multicast Routing Management Features Supported by the S7700
The IPv6 multicast routing management features supported by the system are: configuring IPv6
multicast routing policies, controlling the scope of multicast forwarding, controlling the
parameters of a multicast forwarding table, and configuring multicast splitting.
14.3 Configuring the IPv6 Multicast Routing Policy
Multicast routing policies can be implemented by configuring the IPv6 multicast load splitting
function and setting an IPv6 multicast load splitting weight.
14.4 Limiting the Range of Multicast Forwarding
Multicast information of each multicast group in a network should be transmitted within a certain
scope. Therefore, configuring an IPv6 multicast forwarding boundary, setting the TTL threshold
of IPv6 multicast forwarding, and disabling an interface from receiving IPv6 multicast packets
are necessary for restricting the multicast data forwarding scope.
14.5 Configuring Control Parameters of the IPv6 Multicast Forwarding Table
During network planning, you can restrict the capacity of the forwarding table on a multicast
device, such as the maximum number of entries in the multicast forwarding table and the
maximum number of downstream interfaces of multicast forwarding entries. In this manner,
traffic load on the multicast device is released and thus the fault risk resulted from excessive
entries can be avoided.
14.6 Maintaining IPv6 Multicast Routing Management
Maintaining IPv6 multicast routing management involves clearing IPv6 multicast forwarding
and routing entries, and monitoring IPv6 multicast routing and forwarding.
