Mariner 80 - Piston Ring Installation

Install new piston pin lockrings (each side of piston)
using Lockring Tool (91-77109A1).
Make sure lockrings are properly seated in piston
grooves.
Do not reuse piston pin lockrings. Use only new
lockrings and make sure they are properly seated
in piston grooves.

NOTE: Shaft of Lockring Installation Tool
91-77109A1 must be modified (shortened) to 1.050
in. (26.7 mm).

Piston Ring Installation
IMPORTANT: Piston ring side with letter or mark
must be facing up.
Piston Ring
Piston rings are TAPERED top side, and flat (rectan-
gular) on the bottom side (half-keystone rings).

Piston Ring Grooves
Care must be taken not to scratch the side
surfaces of ring groove. Scratching this area will
damage the ring groove.
CAUTION
1. Install piston ring in appropriate groove on piston
using Piston Ring Expander Tool. Spread rings
just enough to slip over piston.
2. Check piston rings to be sure they fit freely in
groove. Lubricate rings and cylinder wall with
2-cycle oil.
