properlyinstalledpoweroutletwithprotectiveearthcontacts
beforeconnectinganyotherinterfacecables.Iftheintegrity
oftheprotectiveearthconductorisindoubt,disconnectthe
monitorfromthepowerlineanduseitwiththebatteryoption.
Iftheinstallationdoesnotprovideforaprotectiveearth
conductor,disconnectthedevicepowercablefromthepower
lineafterhavingdisconnectedallotherinterfacecables.All
devicesofasystemmustbeconnectedtothesamepower
supplycircuit.Deviceswhicharenotconnectedtothesame
circuitmustbeelectricallyisolatedwhenoperated.

outletorextensioncordinanMEsystem.

EXCESSIVELEAKAGECURRENT.Toavoidsummationofleakage
currentswheninterfacingthedevicewithotherequipment,
thedevicesmayonlybeinterconnectedwitheachother
ortopartsofthesystemwhenithasbeendeterminedby
qualiedbiomedicalpersonnelthatthereisnodangertothe
patient,theoperator,ortheenvironmentasaresult.Inthose
instanceswherethereisanyelementofdoubtconcerning
thesafetyoftheconnecteddevices,theusermustcontact
themanufacturersconcerned(orotherinformedexperts)for
properuse.Inallcases,safeandproperoperationshould
beveriedwiththeapplicablemanufacturer’sinstructions
foruse,andsystemstandardsIEC60601-1clause16must
becompliedwith.
