IGNITION SYSTEM
SERVICE INFORMATION
GENERAL
NOTICE
The
Ignition Control Module (leM)
may
be
damaged if dropped. Also, if the connector is disconnected when current is flowing,
the
excessive voltage
may
damage the
leM.
Always tum the ignition switch to
OFF
before serviCing.
Use
8 spark plug of the correct
heat
range. Using 8 spark plug with
sn
incorrect
heat
range can damage the engine.
When servicing the ignition system, always follow the steps in the troubleshooting sequence on page 4-4.
The
ig
nition timing cannot
be
adjusted since the ICM is factory preset.
A faulty ignition system is often related
to
poor connections. Check those connections before proceeding.
Make sure the battery
is
adequately charged. Using
the
starter motor with a weak
ba
ttery results
in
a slower engine cranking
speed as well as 00 spark at the spark plug.
