As shown in Figure 13-2, the multicast service is deployed on the network. When SwitchC
enabled with the PIM GR function forwards multicast data to the receiver, the master MPU backs
up the PIM routes and Join/Prune messages to be sent to the upstream to the slave MPU. When
the active/standby switchover occurs on SwitchC, the LPUs maintain the existing forwarding
entries to ensure the uninterrupted forwarding of multicast data. The receiver can always receive
multicast data from the source during the active/standby switchover.

Configuration Roadmap
The configuration roadmap is as follows:
1. Configure IPv6 addresses for the interfaces on each switch and unicast routing protocols.
2. Enable the unicast GR function on each switch and set the GR period.
3. Enable the multicast function, enable PIM-IPv6-SM on each interface of the switch, and
enable MLD on the interface connecting switch to the user host.
4. Configure an RP. Configure the same static RP on each switch.
5. Enable PIM GR on the switch where an active/standby switchover will occur and configure
the GR period.
