a. Remove the front or rear cover to access the card you are replacing (see
Models 840/SB3 Covers on page 690).
b. Remove the EMC access plate for the card location that you are accessing.
See Assembly 6: Models 840 and SB3 Processor Tower Final Assembly,
Front on page 828 or Assembly 7: Models 840 and SB3 Processor Tower
Final Assembly, Rear on page 832.
c. If there are cables connected to the card, mark their locations and disconnect
them from the card.
d. On the opposite ends of the card, press the two latch surfaces together to
release each latch.
e. Rotate the latches downward.
f. Pull on both latches at the same time to remove the card from the slot.
g. Intall the new card by reversing the procedure.
h. After exchanging the failing item, then go to Verifying the Repair on
page 920.
This ends the procedure.
6. You are removing a card in the lower half of a FC 8079 or the FC 9079 I/O
tower using Dedicated Maintenance. From the rear of the tower perform the
following:
a. Open the rear cover (see Models 840/SB3 Covers on page 690).
b. Remove the EMC access plate that is located directly above the card
enclosure. Press the two latching mechanisms together and tilt the top of
the cover away from the frame to remove it. See Assembly 7: Models 840
and SB3 Processor Tower Final Assembly, Rear on page 832.
c. Remove the mounting screws from the card enclosure. See Assembly 7:
Models 840 and SB3 Processor Tower Final Assembly, Rear on page 832.
d. Slide the card enclosure partially out of the frame.
e. Disconnect and label any cables from the card that you wish to remove.
f. Turn the blue latch counter clockwise and lift upward on the black latch to
release the card.
Note: If you are removing a FC 2890, then remove the screws from the tail
stock and slide the card cage forward about 6 inches, then the FC
2890 can be removed or inserted.
g. Remove the card by gently pulling it out.
h. Install the new card by reversing the the procedure.
i. After exchanging the failing item, then go to Verifying the Repair on
page 920.
Note: If you have exchanged a 2766 Fibre Channel IOA, the IBM 2105 disk
unit subsystem must be updated to use the World-Wide Port-Name of
the new 2766 IOA. This name can be found in the Port worldwide
name field on the iSeries 400 by displaying detail on the 2766 IOA
Logical Hardware Resource information in Hardware Service Manager
in SST/DST. The 16-digit World-Wide Port-Name can also be
determined by including the digits 1000 to the beginning of the
12-digit IEEE Address found on the tailstock label of the Fibre
Channel IOA. Use the ESS Web Interface Users Guide (SC267346) to
update the World-Wide Port-Name in the host configuration on the
IBM 2105 ESS. The ESS Web Interface Users Guide can also be found at
