CRANKCASE BREATHER
ASET™ engines have a crankcase breather filter
assembly that mounts on the engine front timing
gear cover. This system traps, collects and
returns oil to the engine crankcase that would
otherwise be lost with blow-by gases.
During operation, blow-by gases from the engine
pass upward through the filter element, then
down and out through the center standpipe,
which exits from the canister lower-outboard side.
When blow-by gases pass through the filter
element, oil collects on element surfaces and
then drains back into the crankcase.
The ASET™ engines are equipped with a
housing made of fiberglass-reinforced nylon
(Figure 84). The breather element, housing
mounting gasket and O-rings are NOT
interchangeable with the non-current
cast-aluminum housing design used on past
model engines.
The canister lid and element are removable to
allow element cleaning.
