15.10 IPMItool
The Console Server includes the ipmitool utility for managing and configuring devices that support the Intelligent Platform
ManagementInterface(IPMI)version1.5andversion2.0specications.
IPMIisanopenstandardformonitoring,logging,recovery,inventory,andcontrolofhardwarethatisimplementedindependent
ofthemainCPU,BIOS,andOS.Theserviceprocessor(orBaseboardManagementController,BMC)isthebrainbehind
platform management and its primary purpose is to handle the autonomous sensor monitoring and event logging features.
The ipmitoolprogramprovidesasimplecommand-lineinterfacetothisBMC.Itfeaturestheabilitytoreadthesensordata
repository(SDR)andprintsensorvalues,displaythecontentsoftheSystemEventLog(SEL),printFieldReplaceableUnit
(FRU)inventoryinformation,readandsetLANcongurationparameters,andperformremotechassispowercontrol.

DESCRIPTION
ThisprogramletsyoumanageIntelligentPlatformManagementInterface(IPMI)functionsofeitherthelocalsystem,viaa
kerneldevicedriver,oraremotesystem,usingIPMIV1.5andIPMIv2.0.ThesefunctionsincludeprintingFRUinformation,
LANconguration,sensorreadings,andremotechassispowercontrol.
IPMImanagementofalocalsysteminterfacerequiresacompatibleIPMIkerneldrivertobeinstalledandcongured.OnLinux,
thisdriveriscalledOpenIPMIanditisincludedinstandarddistributions.OnSolaris,thisdriveriscalledBMCandisincluded
inSolaris10.ManagementofaremotestationrequirestheIPMI-over-LANinterfacetobeenabledandcongured.Depending
ontheparticularrequirementsofeachsystem,itmaybepossibletoenabletheLANinterfaceusingipmitooloverthesystem
interface.
OPTIONS
-a Prompt for the remote server password.
-A <authtype> SpecifyanauthenticationtypetouseduringIPMIv1.5lan session activation. Supported types are
NONE,PASSWORD,MD5,orOEM.
-c PresentoutputinCSV(commaseparatedvariable)format.Thisisnotavailablewithallcommands.
-C <ciphersuite> Theremoteserverauthentication,integrity,andencryptionalgorithmstouseforIPMIv2lanplus
connections.Seetable22-19intheIPMIv2specication.Thedefaultis3whichspeciesRAKP-
HMAC-SHA1authentication,HMAC-SHA1-96integrity,andAES-CBC-128encryptionalgorithms.
-E The remote server password is specified by the environment variable IPMI_PASSWORD.
-f <password_file> Speciesalecontainingtheremoteserverpassword.Ifthisoptionisabsent,orifpassword_leis
empty,thepasswordwilldefaulttoNULL.
