Chapter 1 General Information Alpha Compact 32708612
Version: 14.12.2012 page 12 of 135
Label Size
Shows the label format width x length (in feed direction of the
label) in mm (millimeter).
Leading Edge
The front edge of the product/label that triggers the label applica-
tion (see also Edge Detection).
LED
Light Emitting Diode.
Low Label Warning
An optical sensor (reflective light sensor) for identifying a preset
minimum of the (adjusted) label roll diameter for a warning.
Mandrel
A driven axis with a device for fixing the label web. The mandrel
serves for unwinding the label web
Manometer
See Maintenance Unit
Maintenance Unit (FR-
Group)
Unit contains:
Air pressure regulator manometer for displaying the air pressure
value (in bar)
Fast Closing Valve
Water separator for draining the possible present perspiration
water manually.
Opacity
The transparency of a material can be measured via a light barri-
er and is called opacity. The quantity of the radiated light is relat-
ed to the arriving light. The smaller the relation, the smaller the
opacity.
Peeler Bar
Metal edge of the applicator for peeling off the label.
Photocell
Product sensor. The sensor identifies the product and activates
the trigger signals. See trigger.
Piston
The piston acts on the shaft for the linear movement of the cylin-
der and transforms air pressure into movement.
PLC
Programmable logic controller.
Potentiometer (Poti)
Depending on the rotational position of the potentiometer, time
performance of the tamp movement can be regulated and certain
settings of the labeler can be adjusted.
Product Delay)
An adjustable delay from product detection until the applying
cycle starts.
Product Detector
A sensor for detection of the product. Mostly optical sensors are
used (photocells, light barriers or reflective sensors).
PSI
The American measure of air pressure (Pounds per Square Inch
Gauge). 1 bar = 14.7 PSI
Rear Edge
See Trailing Edge.
Reset
Command for resetting software systems on default. Usually
activated by a certain key combination..
Rewind and Unwind
See Rewinder / Unwinder.
