9.8.2 GARP VLAN Registration Protocol (GVRP)
The switch can exchange VLAN configuration information with other GVRP switches us-
ing GVRP feature. It prunes unnecessary broadcast and unknown unicast traffic, and dy-
namically creates and manages VLANs on switches connected through 802.1Q trunk
ports.
9.8.2.1 Enabling GVRP
To enable/disable GVRP on the switch, use the following command.
To enable/disable GVRP on a specific port, use the following command.
9.8.2.2 GVRP Registration Mode
There are three types of the GVRP registration modes as shown below:
• normal: It allows a dynamic creation, registration and deregistration of VLANs.
• fixed: It allows manual VLAN creation and registration, prevents VLAN deregistra-
tion, and registers of all known VLANs on other ports.
• forbidden: It deregisters all VLANs (except VLAN1) and prevents any further VLAN
creation or registration.
To specify GVRP registration mode, use the following command.
gvrp registration {normal | fixed
| forbidden } PORTS
Specify GVRP registration mode. (default: normal)
9.8.2.3 GVRP PDUs Transmission
To enable/disable a port to transmit GVRP PDUs (Protocol Data Unit) including an attrib-
ute of GVRP applicant, use the following command.
gvrp applicant participant
PORTS
Enables a port to transmit GVRP PDUs
gvrp applicant non-participant
PORTS
Disables a port to transmit GVRP PDUs.
