1-2 Tissue slide preparation process
The tissue slide preparation process consists primarily of the following five steps:
5. Drying
Heat is applied to dry the sections on the slides.
2. Slicing
The sample block is cut with the microtome
blade into tissue sections of a specified
thickness. Sections are attached on-the-fly
to carrier tape.
4. Stretching (extension)
Heat is applied to stretch and dewrinkle the
sections on the slides.

1. Rough cutting (Trimming)
Sample blocks are trimmed with the
microtome blade to a predetermined depth (*)
until the tissue surface is exposed.
*Two methods are available for rough
cutting: trimming to a parametrically-specified
depth; and automatic trimming (option) until the
predetermined exposed surface ratio of the
tissue (%) is reached. For the latter method,
refer to 1-3 “Additional processes.”

3. Transferring sections onto slide
The sections attached to the carrier tape
are transferred onto the slide glasses.
