Chapter 3 - Preoperational Setup -
AS-410M Auto Slide Preparation System

3-4-2 Setting samples in place
The system can accommodate up to twenty-four samples with the standard configuration. Alternatively,
the system can be expanded with the 6-sample feeding unit option (accommodable up to 6 samples)
and the 96-sample feeding unit option (accommodable up to 96 samples). Refer to 1-1 “System
overview and configuration”.
Bear the following points in mind when setting samples (paraffin-embedded tissue sample
blocks) in this System.
●
Check and ensure that paraffin-embedded tissue sample blocks have no shavings or the
like on their top. Do not start the System with samples set inside with any shavings left
on their top. Otherwise, the System may fail to adjust the tilt and height of unsliced
samples correctly automatically and consequently fail in normal section preparation.
Some sliced samples may contain irregularities in their paraffin-coated surfaces and
have the same problem as above. Using a hand-operated microtome, smooth the
surfaces of such samples before setting them in the System.
●
Check and ensure that there is no excess paraffin on the around or bottom side of the
cassette and also that the cassette is free from burrs. Failure to remove excess paraffin
or burrs from the cassette may cause the transfer robot or the sample holder (tilt stage)
to fail to grip samples properly, resulting in an error.
Check the block top surface for any
paraffin shavings, etc.
Check the around and bottom of the cassette for any excess paraffin.
