Initial Configuration, Connecting with the Network
Before the ETERNUS CS800 is operational, you must configure the system through the
setup wizard. You must also connect the ETERNUS CS800 with the network and configure
your backup software (in case of OST usage also see ETERNUS CS800 OST Guide).
Configuring the ETERNUS CS800 consists of the following steps. See the following
subsections for detailed instructions for completing each step:
1. "Switching on the System"
2. "Connecting the Notebook with the Server"
3. "Running the Getting Started Wizard"
I
You will need a notebook and an Ethernet cable to do the initial setup.
V
CAUTION!
If you attempt to install multiple ETERNUS CS800 systems at the same time, an IP
address conflict can occur because each system is configured with the same
default IP address (10.1.1.1). To avoid this problem, install one system and
configure it to use a different IP address before you connect another system to the
network.
Afterwards the ETERNUS CS800 has to be connected with the LAN, see "Connecting the
System with the Network". Eventually, for an ETERNUS CS800 system with PTT or VTL
available, the appropriate cabling has to be done, see "VTL and PTT Cabling" on page 100.
Switching on the System
Proceed as follows:
1. (Scale model only): Turn on all PSU switches on the rear side of the storage modules.
a) Check that the LINE LEDs of all storage expansion modules are green.
b) Press the power switch on the left flange cover of the storage base module.
c) Wait until the READY LED of the storage base module glows green.
2. Press the power button of the server (see Figure 63).
3. Wait 15 minutes for the system to boot before continuing with the procedure.
