When scanning a document in a type other than the above, perform a test on the same type of document
(paper) first to check whether it can be scanned.
Document Thickness (Paper Weight)
Documents with the following paper weights (thickness) can be scanned:
● 20 to 465 g/m
2
(5.3 to 124 lb)
● For A8 size, 128 to 209 g/m
2
(34 to 56 lb)
● 1.4 mm or less for plastic cards (Embossed cards allowed (ISO7810 ID-1 type compliant))
● 7 mm or less for passports (ISO/IEC 7810 ID-3 compliant) (*1)
*1:For fi-8190/fi-8290/fi-8170/fi-8270, a passport with a thickness of up to 7 mm can be scanned without the
Booklet Carrier Sheet.
For fi-8150/fi-8250/fi-8150U/fi-8250U, use the Booklet Carrier Sheet to scan a passport.
When using the Booklet Carrier Sheet, a document thickness that includes the Booklet Carrier Sheet must be
up to 7 mm.
Documents That May Not Be Scanned Successfully
The following types of documents may not be scanned successfully:
● Documents of non-uniform thickness (such as envelopes or documents with attachments)
● Wrinkled or curled documents
● Folded or torn documents
● Tracing paper
● Coated paper
● Carbon paper
● Photosensitive paper
● Perforated documents
● Documents that are not square or rectangular
● Very thin paper
● Photographs (photographic paper)
HINT
Documents that may not be scanned successfully can be scanned by using the (Carrier) Sheet.
Wrinkled, curled, or folded documents can also be scanned by smoothing out wrinkles, curls, or folds on
documents.
