Indications on Function Number Display
Indication Description
8 Displayed when the scanner is turned on.
P Indicates that the initialization is in process after the scanner is turned on.
0 Indicates that the initialization is in process and is near the end of process after the scanner
is turned on.
1 Ready to start scanning.
Indicates that the initialization is successfully complete.
This is referred to as "ready" status.
Function number
(such as "1")
(flashing)
After overlapped documents are detected, the function number flashes.
This indicates that you can determine whether or not to memorize the overlap pattern.
For details, refer to Configuring Not to Detect Certain Overlap Patterns (page 205).
c (flashing) Indicates that the scanner is in a ready status and the ADF is open.
In this case, the LED indicator also flashes.
When the ADF is closed, the display returns to the ready status ("1").
For information on how to close the ADF, refer to How to Close the ADF (page 78).
If the display does not return to the ready status ("1") even after the ADF is closed, turn the
power off then back on.
If the indication continues to appear after turning the power back on, contact the
distributor/dealer where you purchased this product. Refer to the contact information in the
Contact List if supplied with this product, or refer to the contact information in the Contact
for Inquiries section if provided in Safety Precautions supplied with this product, and then
make an inquiry.
P (flashing) Indicates that the [Send to] button was pressed to pause the scan.
Press the [Scan/Stop] button to resume the paused scan.
n (upper) Displayed when the [Send to] button is pressed while the scanner is in a ready status.
n (lower) Displayed when the [Scan/Stop] button is pressed while the scanner is in a ready status.

Indicates that an error occurred during scanning.
The letter "J", "n", or "U" and an number appear alternately. A letter combined with a
number is an "error code".
For details about errors, refer to Errors (page 248).
Press the [Scan/Stop] button/[Send to] button in this status to return to the ready status
("1").

Indicates that an error occurred on the scanner itself.
The letter "A", "C", "E", "F", "H", "L", or "n" and a number appear alternately. A letter
combined with a number is an "error code".
For details about errors, refer to Errors (page 248).
Press the [Scan/Stop] button/[Send to] button in this status to return to the ready status
("1").
