Chapter 11 Monitoring Temperature
11.1 Introducon
The body temperature is monitored by direct measuring mode with the temperature sensor of thermistor type. Very small
amount of constant current is applied to the temperature sensor to avoid self-heang, the voltage across the thermistor
is measured, and further converted to the temperature reading according to the temperature-resistance characterisc
for a specic type of thermistor. The temperature measuring circuit does the self-tesng periodically to prevent false
reading when there is failure in hardware.
You can simultaneously monitor two temperature sites using the device, for specic model, only one channel temperature
is available.
11.2 Safety Informaon
 Verify that the probe detecng funcon works correctly before monitoring. Unplug the temperature probe cable
from the T1 or T2 connector, and the monitor can display the message [T1 Sensor O] or [T2 Sensor O] and give
alarm tones correctly.
 Make correct choice in setup menu for “KRK” and YSI” series of temperature sensor used, since they have dierent
temperature-resistance characterisc (KRK thermistor has 10.000K ohms @25
o
C, YSI thermistor has 2.252K ohms
@25
o
C). Mismatching will cause wrong temperature reading or even out of range.
11.3 Making a TEMP Measurement
Please follow the corresponding methods to make temperature measurement according to the temperature transducer
you selected.
Connecng the thermal temperature sensor:
The temperature sensor is thermo-resistor type it needs me to respond the temperature change, so the accurate
temperature value displays aer a while. The temperature sensor equipped may have dierent shape for measuring body
surface temperature or cavity temperature respecvely.
Normal value for body surface: 36.5°C ~37°C;
Notes:
 For body surface temperature probe, aach the TEMP sensor to the paent, generally if the TEMP sensor and skin
doesn’t contact closely, the measured value becomes lower, so for those who have requirement for temperature
monitoring, add a proper pad to the sensor and x it with adhesive tape to make them contact rmly.
 Especially for pediatric paent, they have more acvies, pay more aenon to the sensor xing.
 The TEMP sensor is designed for use with the specic paent monitor, which cannot be used as applied part to
other products.
 The operator is responsible for checking the compability of the paent monitor and sensor type including cable
before use.
 Incompable components can result in degraded performance.
