16.6. Priming process
ＣＡＵＴＩＯＮ
z Follow instruction of dialyzer manufacturer to know “which should be preceded blood or
dialysate compartment when dialyzer is primed”.
z In the case of priming blood compartment, when “priming function” is used, follow
instruction specified in 15.6.4.1. If the function is not used, follow instruction specified in
15.6.4.2.
z Priming method may be specified by each hospital or medical facilities. Prime dialyzer
based on method specified by it unless function and performance of the machine is
damaged. The method described in this manual is example.
1. Set saline vial to hanger.
2. Prime blood line with saline.
3. Prime dialysate compartment of dialyzer with dialysate.
4. Rinse blood line and blood compartment of dialyzer.
16.6.1. Setting of saline vial
(1) Set saline vial to hanger.
(2) Fill drip chamber of saline infusion set with saline until level in the chamber arrives at
1/2 to 3/4 of full height of it.
(3) Clamp saline line of arterial side.
(4) Connect the line to the infusion set.
16.6.2. Priming of saline
(1) After checking that level adjusting line of arterial side is clamped and that arterial shunt
joint line is not clamped, open clamp of saline line.
Rinse the shunt joint line with required volume of saline by gravity flow.
(2) Close clamp of the joint line to stop saline flow.
(3) Rinse syringe infusion line.
・ Remove Luer cap from the line and put in waste container.
・ Open clamp of the line.
・ Open blood pump cover.
・ Rinse the line with required volume of saline by turning blood pump rotor clockwise
manually under closing dialyzer side of blood line.
・ Close blood pump cover.
・ Close clamp of the infusion line.
・ Connect the line to syringe set to syringe pump.
・ Open clamp of the line.
(4) After checking that level adjusting line of venous side is clamped and venous shunt
joint line is not clamped, turn on [ON/OFF] SW of blood pump to operate it with flow rate
indication.
