The Subscriber Interface
This chapter provides an overview of the HSG’s Subscriber Interface and sections
outlining the authorization and billing processes, subscriber management modles, and
the Information and Control Console (ICC).
Overview
The Subscriber Interface is the window to the solution providers Web site, and much
more than that. When a subscriber accesses the solution providers high speed
network, the HSG points their browser to a sign-in page. The HSG then creates a
database entry that automatically records the subscribers Media Access Control
(MAC) address. Like a router, the HSG continuously tracks subscriber IP and MAC
settings, eliminating the need for further sign-ins and ensuring that subscriber usage
and billing is recorded accurately. The HSG also eliminates configuration issues
between the subscribers computer and the network.
The Subscriber Interface is the portal Web site of the solution providers broadband
network, and as such, its appearance and functionality reflect the needs of the
solution provider. The HSG is a gateway to this network, providing connection
services that enable and automate an effective Enterprise relationship between a
supplier (the solution provider) and its customer (the subscriber). The HSG’s role in
this customer/supplier relationship is effectively “invisible” to subscribers.
