50 Chapter 3: Configuring And Using Device Control
TARGA 3000 Device Control
The TARGA 3000 software is designed to provide device control within your
video-editing application for video equipment (camcorders, VTR’s, etc) that is device
control compatible. Device control is useful to query information from a video input
device like time code, or to control functions on an input device such as play, pause,
rewind, etc. The TARGA software helps to establish two methods of device control into
your video-editing application:
• DV 1394 cable device control (Pinnacle DV)
• Serial port cable device control (ProVTR)
Configuring Device Control
Regardless of the method of device control to be used, your video-editing application must
be configured to use device control. First, make sure that the device control cable (DV
1394 or RS-422 serial) is properly connected to the device and computer. Refer to the
“TARGA 3000 Hardware & Software Installation Guide” for instructions on connecting
the device control cable. The device to be controlled should also be on. To configure
device control in Adobe Premiere: select File Menu » Preferences » Scratch Disk / Device
Control. The Preferences dialog box should appear.
