1. What are the best drives for use with the TARGA 3000? How do I configure
them? Why and when do I need a SCSI card or disk array? Which SCSI card
is best for use with the TARGA 3000?
The important things to remember are to use equipment that is Ultra-2-Wide or
Ultra 160 SCSI that does 10,000 rpm or better and is Audio-Video (AV) rated.
Check with the disk manufacturer to configure the drive for peak performance.
Also, a list of Authorized Value Added Resellers and certified TARGA 3000 system
configurations can be found at the Customer Support section of the Pinnacle Systems
web site at: http://www.pinnaclesys.com
2. What data rates do I need for I/O?
For compressed video you need 20 MB/sec. For uncompressed video with dual
streams, approximaely 60 MB/sec. For uncompressed video with three streams,
approximaely 80 MB/sec. Also, if you are using DV tape, use 1394. If you are
working with Hi 8 or S-VHS mediums, capture to DV. If you are using a component
medium, capture to uncompressed YUV.
3. Can the TARGA 3000 output broadcast quality video?
TARGA 3000 meets all the NTSC and PAL timing requirements for non-square pixel
CCIR 601 resolutions. However, it is important that you start with broadcast quality
material, and have a system capable of maintaining broadcast quality data rates.
For optimum quality video, serial digital or at least Component is recommended.
