MSIM-OPU (OPU-Multiplex Mismatch)

Probable Cause Suggested Corrective Action
CH CR The values in the multiplex
structure identifier fields within
the OPU overhead (OPU2
Payload Structure Identifier
bytes 2 through 5) differs from
the expected values.
The most likely causes of this
condition are:
Provisioning of different
unit types at each end of
the path.
Mis-connection of the
signal between the far and
near-end OPU termination
points.
A failure of the far-end or
near-end equipment.
Interconnection to a far-
end device which maps
the multiplexed
ODU1/ODU2 signals
within the OPU2/OPU3
into tributaries in an order
other than tributary 1 into
position 1, tributary 2 into
position 2 and so on.
1 Verify that the (network side) facility
and its associated client facilities are
provisioned correctly and are of the
intended type.
2 Verify that the facility is provisioned on
the correct module type, and that there
are no equipment conditions active on
that module.
3 Verify that the far-end facilities - both
network and the associated client(s) -
are provisioned correctly and are
supported by the same module type as
the near-end facility.
4 Verify that the incoming cable is the
correct cable and that the transmit and
receive ports are connected to their
proper respective portions of the cable
(i.e. that the fibers are not swapped
between transmit and receive).
5 Proceeding to successive segments
upstream of the node reporting the
failure, verify that the signal is correctly
routed and that the fibers are correctly
connected to the intended signal
source.
6 Replace the plug supporting the far-end
facility.
7 Replace the module supporting the far-
end facility.
8 Replace the plug supporting the near-
end facility.
9 Replace the module supporting the
near-end facility.
