Ignition Coil
Description
The ignition coil consists of a primary and secondary winding of wire. The primary winding is located on one end of
the coil. The secondary winding connects to two spark plugs. The secondary windings form a loop and provide high-
voltage output.
Operation
One end of the primary wire is connected to battery power and the other end is connected to the Engine Control
Module (ECM). When the primary wire is connected to battery power, current will flow causing a strong magnetic field
to form. When the primary wire is disconnected, the magnetic field will collapse into the secondary winding causing
a very high voltage output.
Removal & Installation
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect the ignition coil electrical connector (1).
3. Twist the spark plug wires from the ignition coil and
remove the four spark plug wires.
4. Remove the 4 ignition coil retaining bolts (2).
(Tighten: Ignition coil retaining bolts to 6 N·m)
5. Remove the ignition coil.
6. Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
