Automated Manual Transaxle (AMT) Control Module Electrical Harness Test Tool
If using an Automated Manual Transaxle (AMT) control module electrical harness test tool, you can diagnose the
AMT control module harness while the AMT control module is still connected.
Measure sensor and solenoid resistance (always measure resistance with the power off).
Measure the signal voltage of the AMT control module (always measure voltage with the power on).
NOTE :
Using the Automated Manual Transaxle (AMT) control module electrical harness test tool will help prevent electrical
connector terminal damage.
Automated Manual Transaxle (AMT) Self-Learning Information and Operating
Procedure
The AMT is an electronically controlled transaxle providing precise shifting. The transaxle electronics are self-cali-
brating, therefore, the first few shifts on a new vehicle may be somewhat abrupt. This is a normal condition, and
precision shifts will develop within a few kilometers. The transaxle system uses an electronically operated hydraulic
unit coupled to the existing mechanical transaxle that automatically controls the clutch and gearshift operations. The
AMT uses the following components for operation:
The AMT control module monitors the following inputs:
Vehicle speed sensor
AMT input sensor
The AMT control module controls the following outputs:
Three proportion solenoids
Two conversion switches
Two pressure pumps
Engine starter relay
It is necessary to perform the AMT re-calibration and self-learning procedure when any of the following repairs have
been made:
AMT control module replacement
AMT gearshift mechanism replacement
AMT electro-mechanical control unit replacement
Repair or replacement of any components of the AMT electro-mechanical control unit
Clutch assembly replacement
NOTE :
The AMT re-calibration and self-learning procedure is required to calibrate the following parameters:
Engagement and selection position to manage gearshifts
PIS (Point of Initial clutch Slippage) calibration
AMT Warning Lamp Control Strategy
When a confirmed AMT system failure is present, the transaxle warning light turns on in the instrument cluster, and
a warning buzzer will sound to alert the driver of the failure. The following conditions occur when the AMT control
module has determined a failure is present:
The failure is confirmed and stored in the AMT control module.
The failure is stored in the EPROM automatically when the system is shut down, and it can be viewed with the
scan tool.
The failure is confirmed during operation.
The system will resume when the failure is confirmed.
