CIRCUIT BOARD SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
The electronic circuit boards are extremely sensitive to
static electricity and voltage surges. In both cases, the
life of the components on the circuit board will shorten
and result in shortened component life and board failure.
Use a Static Wrist Strap or other protective device when
handling or changing any electronic circuit board. To
avoid damaging the circuit boards and prolong their life,
observe the following precautions:
1. Never plug in or unplug a circuit board, ribbon
cable or cable connector with the power “On.”
2. Never place a circuit board or component directly
on a metal surface.
3. Avoid touching the components and pins on the
circuit boards. Static electrical charges on your
hands can damage the circuit board
components.
4. Always store the circuit boards in static shield
bags. The boards ship from Formax in static
shield bags and anti-static bubble bags. Always
place the circuit boards in the static free bags
first and then the bubble bag. Save these bags
for troubleshooting and when returning the circuit
boards to Formax for repair.
5. Static Shield bags protect the circuit boards from
external charges. Anti-static bubble bags do not
create a charge, but will not protect the board
from external charges. Circuit Boards must be
placed in a Static Shield bag as soon as they are
removed from the machine.
6. Do Not attempt to repair the boards! The Formax
Electronic Department has special anti-static
equipment and test fixtures for circuit board
repair. Some of the Circuit Boards must be
repaired at the manufacturer.
7. When removing ribbon cables, firmly grasp the
cable connector and carefully pull it from the
socket. Do Not pull on the cable itself or you will
damage the connection. Unplug all other cables
in the same fashion. When plugging cables in,
make sure the pins and sockets are aligned
correctly or you will bend the pins.
