MLC650 SERVICE/MAINTENANCE MANUAL BOOM
PHYSICAL BOOM STOP
See Figure 4-4 for the following procedure.
Physical boom stops (1) serve the following purposes:
• Assist in stopping the boom smoothly at any angle
above 78°
• Assists in preventing boom rigging from pulling the
boom back when traveling or setting loads with boom at
any angle above 78°
• Assists in moving the boom forward when lowering the
boom from any angle above 78°
• Provides a physical stop at 88°
Physical Boom Stop Operation
1. When the boom is raised to 78°, the boom stop spring
(4) in the boom stop tube (5) begins to compress (see
View A).
2. As the boom is raised higher, spring compression
increases to exert greater force against the boom.
3. If the boom is raised to 88°, the boom stop spring
becomes fully compressed and the boom stop tube
provides a physical stop (see View B).
NOTE: Struts (3) do not require adjustment.
WARNING
Falling Attachment Hazard!
The physical boom stops must be installed for all crane
operations.
Physical boom stops do not automatically stop the boom
at maximum operating angle. The automatic boom stop
must be installed and properly adjusted.
