Counter Name (NMS or SCL) Update Rate / Method Severity Effect on System Function & Notes
Accumulated Received Unframed

S: Acum Unframed All Ones
Cnt
SCL:
ARBL
Accum
ulated counter is
incr
emented b
y adding current
counter every second.
Major When Unframed All Ones
signal is active, pay
load
traffic is over-written by
alarm and several other
alarms become active.
Counter reports accumulated
count of received Alarm
I
ndication Signal (“All-Ones”).
AIS is a DS1 signal containing
only 1’s. This is specifically
generated by equipment
external to MUX (such as
SONET) and typically denotes
trouble with communication
links between nodes.
Accumulated Received Remote
Alarm
NM
S: Acum Remote Alarm
Indication Cnt
SCL:
ARYEL
Accumulated counter is
incr
emented b
y adding current
counter every second.
Minor When Remote Alarm signal
is active, FDL traffic is
over-written by alarm.
Counter reports accumulated
count of received Remote
Alarm. Remote Alarm is a
message carried by the
overhead of T1. This is
specifically generated by
equipment external to MUX
and typically denote trouble
with communication links.
Unless forced, MUX does not
generate Remote Alarm, but
passes it on.
Accumulated Received Carrier
Losses
NM
S: Acum Receive Carrier Loss
Cnt
SCL:
ARCL
Accumulated counter is
incr
emented b
y adding current
counter every second.
Major When Loss of Carrier exists,
payload traffic is
interrupted.
Counter reports accumulated
count of Loss of Carrier at the
Common Module. Loss of
Carrier is caused by low
received signal power level or
low 1’s density. Typically, this
denotes missing T1 signal at
the multiplexer port. During
Loss of Carrier condition, the
content of other counters may
be not valid. Due to AGC
action of framer input, Carrier
Alarm may clear after initial
indication even if Loss
condition continues
Accumulated Received Losses of
Frame
NM
S: Acum Loss of Frame Cnt
SCL:
ARLOS
Accumulated counter is
incr
emented b
y adding current
counter every second.
Major When Loss of Frame
condition exists, payload
traffic is corrupted.
Disturbance may spread to
other nodes.
Counter reports accumulated
count of Loss o
f Frame at the
Common Module. Loss of
Frame occurs when the
multiplexer cannot capture the
timing structure of the received
signal. Typically, this denotes
bad T1 signal at the
multiplexer port, high bit error
rate, improper single-
frame/multi-frame
configuration or improper
timing configuration. During
Loss of Frame condition, the
content of other counters may
be not valid. When Fast
Reframe is On, and Loss of
Frame is the only alarm active,
it is most likely due to
incorrect Fast Enable/Disable
configuration in the network.
