2.3 M-DACS MULTIPLEXER COMPONENTS
Each IMUX 2000 M-DACS multiplexer contains the following components:

Each of these components is described in the paragraphs that follow.
2.3.1 M-DACS SHELF
The Main Shelf is the enclosure for the IMUX 2000 M-DACS multiplexer. It has plug-in slots in the
front for one main power supply and one optional redundant power supply. It also provides 18 physical
slots for the DACS module,T1 common modules (CM4s), and channel modules. Plug-in slots at the
rear accommodate module adapters (MAs) and optical interface adapters (OIAs). (See Figure 2-12.)
Each IMUX 2000 M-DACS multiplexer includes one shelf which can be installed in a standard 19-
inch equipment rack. The shelf is 5.25 inches (13.3 cm) high, and occupies three rack units of cabinet
space (3RU).
The following are slot assignments for the M-DACS shelf:
1. For the front modules, the DACS module must be installed in Slot 1 and 2, D/I-A CM4 must
be installed in Slot 4, D/I-B CM4 must be installed in Slot 5, the optional NCM or SAG module
should be installed in Slot 6, Slots 7 through 18 are available for channel modules.
2. For the rear modules, the line I/O interfaces and/or the Optical Interface Adpaters must be
installed in Slots 1-4, the communications I/O (MA-235 or MA-240) must be installed in Slot
5, the NCM I/O (MA-402I, MA490) or the SAG I/O (MA-810) should correspond to the same
slot as its front module, the channel module adapters should correspond to the same slot as their
front modules.
Note: The communications adapter MA-235 has generally been replaced by the MA-240 on
newer units.
