RFL MA-490
Telnet I/O Module
For IMUX 2000 And RFL 9745
(Includes External Telnet Adapter)
DESCRIPTION
The RFL MA-490, is an RS232/Telnet I/O adapter module used in systems that have an RS232 port
and that require Telnet link capability. This module contains one Ethernet port and two RS232 ports.
The basic function of this module is to exchange messages between the Ethernet port and the Data
port. One of the RS-232 ports is the Craft port and the other is the Data port. These ports are RS232
ports with DB9 connectors. The Craft port is used to set up TCP/IP parameters and Data port
communications parameters. The Craft port communication parameters are always 9600 baud, no
parity, 8 data bits, and 1 stop bit. The Data port is used to connect the MA-490 to the Common Module
or other external equipment.
As shown in Figure 1, there are three types of MA-490 Telnet I/Os. One unit is used in the IMUX
2000; another unit is used in the RFL 9745. Optionally, a third unit is provided as an external adapter
(107495-20). This unit will only connect to external equipment via the Data port and has no
connection to the Common Module in the IMUX 2000. A special data cable is provided for this unit
(107486-10). All the units are functionally identical except the packaging is different.
When used in the IMUX 2000, the MA-490 can provide an ethernet interface for the NCM module, or
can provide a stand-alone ethernet interface for any external equipment that has an RS-232 port.
Several MA-490 modules can be plugged into a single IMUX 2000 chassis, each providing an ethernet
interface for external equipment. When used as an ethernet interface for the NCM module, refer to the
NCM Product Information sheet (publication Number ID2000NCM) for more information. When used
as a stand-alone interface, the MA-490 occupies one module slot at the rear of the IMUX 2000 chassis.
It can be plugged into any rear slot that has a corresponding blank slot at the front of the chassis. When
used as an ethernet interface for the RFL 9745, it is installed at the rear left of the chassis. The 9745
chassis must have either a blank panel or a generic Redundant Power Supply I/O in this location or the
unit will not fit.
