6.5.3 IPU (IMAGE PROCESSING UNIT)
Overview
The image data from the SBU goes to the IPU (Image Processing Unit) on the
BICU board, which carries out the following processes on the image data:
1. Auto shading
2. White/black line correction
3. ADS
4. Scanner gamma correction
5. Magnification (main scan)
6. Filtering (MTF and smoothing)
7. ID gamma correction
8. Binary picture processing
9. Error diffusion
10. Dithering
11. Video path control
12. Test pattern generation
The image data then goes to the VCU (basic machine) or to the GW controller
(MFP machine).
NOTE: The IPU and VCU are contained in the same IC (called SCRATCH) on the
BICU.
