1.9.8 Particle filter regeneration (level 4i)
During regeneration, exhaust gas temperatures up to 850°C can be
reached and the exhaust system surface temperature can exceed
740°C, which is hot enough to ignite or melt common materials and
cause burns.
The exhaust components remain hot after the machine has been shut
down.
To avoid the danger of fires, property damage, burns or injuries, allow
the exhaust system to cool off before starting this process and ensure
that no flammable materials are located nearby.
To perform manual regeneration, follow the points listed:
Select a suitable location to park the machine in its park position.
Select a subgrade that will not burn or melt at higher temperatures
(such as cement or gravel, not on grass or asphalt!).
Ensure that there are no objects within 1.0 m of the exhaust
opening.
Materials that burn, melt, or explode must be kept at least 2.0 m from
the exhaust opening (such as gasoline, paper, plastics, textiles,
compressed gas containers, hydraulic lines).
Ensure that there are no gases or vapors nearby which can burn,
explode, or cause a fire (such as LP gas, gasoline vapors, oxygen,
nitrous oxide).
Park the machine on a firm subgrade.
Place the attached loads and the boom on the ground if necessary.
Reduce the engine speed to idle.
Pull back the safety lever.
Secure the machine (lights, warning triangle, chocks, etc.).
Set up a secure exhaust surface. Onlookers must stay at least 2.0 m
from the exhaust opening during manual regeneration. If the
machine is in a building, an exhaust gas line must be set up. This
must be specified for an exhaust gas temperature of at least 850°C.
Keep a functional fire extinguisher handy.
Check the surfaces of the exhaust system. Ensure that no items are
present near the exhaust system (such as tools, rags, grease,
or dirt).
The accelerator is released.
Start the manual particle filter regeneration using the particle filter
regeneration switch.
