Chapter 9: Troubleshooting an MPLS
problem
For
troubleshooting an MPLS network, you should use a step by step approach for isolating the problems.
The first step is to ensure the dependency interfaces are functioning properly, and in an “up” state. Other
items to check include making sure the route exists, that you can ping the peer, and that the MPLS protocol
is globally enabled. These are basic prerequisites for MPLS troubleshooting.
General MPLS - Prerequisites for RSVP, LDP, L2VPN, Static
LSP
Before debugging ensure all MPLS prerequisites are satisfied:
1.
Verify the Interfaces
Check that routers are connected, the interfaces are UP and configured correctly
by issuing the following commands:
show interface show ip interface brief
2. Verify the Routing Protocol
• Issue the command show ip route to verify the routing table
• Ensure the routes to the network are present
• If the routes are not present check routing protocol configuration
3. Ping the neighbors
• Ensure that a ping to the MPLS peer / Router ID is successful
4. Verify MPLS
• Ensure MPLS is enable in the required interfaces
• Issue the command show mpls interface to verify the MPLS interfaces
• Ensure the required MPLS protocol is enabled in the required interfaces
• Issue the commands show rsvp interface and show ldp interface
