Press 1 to select WELL or 2 to select PROBE. After making this selection, the appropriate
Calibration Screen will appear.
Figure 6-10 is an example of the Probe Calibration Screen. If
data for a cesium standard was entered in the Cs137 Standard Setup, the source name will
appear on the display. Otherwise this field will be blank.
Note: Even if the CAPTUS
®
600 is equipped with only one detector used for both Probe and
Well measurements, separate Auto Calibration must be done for the Well and Probe
in this section.

Place the Cs137 standard source in the CAPTUS
®
600 detector. Press the [F4] START key.
The counting display (Figure 6-11) will appear. As the counts increase, the vertical scale also
increases, changing from 100, to 200, 500, etc. to accommodate for the number of counts
measured by the CAPTUS
®
600. The CAPTUS
®
600
will count until sufficient counts are
accumulated for accurate calibration. After the AutoCal program sets the High Voltage, it
counts until the 662 keV gamma peak reaches 1000 counts. It then calculates the full width-
half maximum (FWHM) of the peak. This FWHM is used in calculating peak widths based on
the energy resolution of the detector. The system uses the FWHM calculated in AutoCal or
Test, whichever was done last.
