5.2 Bidirectional Parallel Interface
Overview
Theinterfaceofthe printer is aLevel-1 compatible device accordingtoIEEE-P1284. Itsupports the communication modes
described in5.2.1 below.
5.2.1 Parallel Interface Communication Mode
Theparallel interfaceofthe printer providesthree communication modes asoutlined below.Whenthe printeris turned onor
reset, it defaultsto Compatibility mode.
•Compatibility Mode
Dataistransmittedfromthehosttotheprinterinunitsofonebyte.Usually,thismodeisusedfordatatransmission.Youmay
switchtotheother modes from Compatibilitymode.
*Remarks: CT-P29x series cannot use this mode.
•Nibble Mode
Dataistransmittedfromtheprintertothehostinunitsoffourbits.Thedatatransmissionfromtheprinterusesastatussignal
line. Tosend one byteofdata inthis mode, two sets of four-bit data are sentconsecutively.
•Byte Mode
Data istransmitted from the printer tothehost inunitsof one byte. Data transmissionfrom the printeruses an 8-bit data
signalline. For Byte mode, thehostmust be capable oftoggling thesignal directionoverthe8-bit data signal line.
Communicationfrom the hosttothe printer iscalled Forwardmode, whilecommunication fromthe printerto thehost is
calledReverse mode.
