Checking procedures
If faulty sectioning or adhesion to the carrier tape occurs when no change has been made to the
section thickness or the sample block preparation method, the cause may be one or more of those
given below.
When any change has been made to the section thickness or the sample block preparation
method, select appropriate parameters accordingly.
① Slicing parameters
Changes to the sectioning parameters affect the sectioning and put-on movement
operations. Check and ensure that the parameter settings are the same as the last time the
System worked normally.
To check the currently selected basic parameters, first select PARAMETER SETTING from
the “MAIN” screen. Then, the file number and file name of the currently selected file will
appear on the upper section of the “Slicing Parameter Setting” screen.
② Humidifying water
Humidifying water is sprayed from the humidifying water nozzle for a duration set as a
parameter before sample block sectioning. At this point, check and ensure that humidifying
water is properly sprayed in mist form.
If no humidifying water is sprayed, the humidifying water may not be sufficiently fed from
the humidifying water bottle to the humidifier.
A low water level in the humidifier usually causes a caution error that appears on the
operation panel. (See 5-1-3-8 “Humidifying water low caution.”)
Contact us if no caution error occurs when humidifying water fails to be sprayed in mist
form.
③ Sample block gripping
Any paraffin shavings or any other foreign matter on the sample block or the circumferential
edges of the sample cassette may cause the sample holder to fail to grip the sample. Remove
any such foreign matter. Remove paraffin shavings or any other foreign matter from the
sample holder to prevent similar problems.
④ Scratched sectioning of the blade
If there are linear flaws in sections, the cause may be a scratched sectioning blade or a
paraffin buildup on the sectioning blade. Change the sectioning position. Alternatively, replace
the blade.
⑤ Guide Bar positioning
If sliced sections fail to adhere on the carrier tape and the remedial actions ① to ④
above do not fix the problem, the guide bar positioning may be faulty. Contact us for advice.

The slicing quality and adhesion of sections to the carrier tape may vary
depending on the type of tissue used, the tissue fixation method used,
or the type of embedding paraffin used. What follows describes actions
to be taken for problems that may arise from sample blocks prepared
using conventional methods.
