Event data recorder (EDR)
The vehicle is equipped with an event data recorder (EDR) implemented by airbag ECU, which is mainly used to monitor, collect and record data for
vehicle and supplemental restraint systems before, during and after a collision event (a collision or other physical event that reaches or exceeds the
trigger threshold, or any other event that causes airbag ,curtain airbag, seat belt pretensioner, etc. to deploy, whichever occurs first). This data can help
understand the operating conditions of the vehicle systems.
To read the data recorded by the EDR, special equipment and access to the vehicle or EDR are required. In addition to the vehicle manufacturer, the third
parties with special equipment such as law enforcement agencies can read the information if they have access to the vehicle or EDR.
Model of EDR data reading equipment: Dongfeng X431-PR04 diagnostic scan tool.
Availability of data reading of event data recorder (EDR): the EDR data extraction tool is provided by the suppliers specified by the competent
department, and can be purchased from franchise stores or suppliers.
In the event of a severe collision in which the airbag deploys, the data stored in the EDR will be locked and cannot be overwritten. Other collision data will
be overwritten with the latest accident data. The EDR of the vehicle records the following data:
S/N
Name
Data purpose
1
a
Longitudinal delta-V
It characterizes the changes in longitudinal vehicle speed. Longitudinal delta-V is just the longitudinal
component of the total delta-V.
2
a
Maximum recorded longitudinal delta-V
It characterizes the maximum cumulative vehicle speed change in the X-axis direction recorded by the
EDR. This data shall be used in conjunction with Time to maximum recorded longitudinal delta-V.
3
a
Time to maximum recorded longitudinal delta-V
It refers to the time recorded by the EDR from time zero to occurrence of the maximum cumulative vehicle
speed change along the X-axis. This data shall be used in conjunction with Maximum recorded
longitudinal delta-V.
4
b
Clipping flag
It indicates the point in time when an acceleration sensor first reaches the maximum value within the
specified range.
5
Vehicle speed
It refers to the wheel-side linear velocity or the vehicle speed obtained by other means.
6
Service brake, on or off
It is used to detect if the driver depresses the brake pedal.
7
Driver's seat belt status
It records the status of the driver's seat belt buckle switch.
8
c,d
Accelerator pedal position, throttle opening percentage
It records the percentage of the accelerator pedal actual position to the driver’s fully depressed position.
