Electric park brake (EPB)
The EPB switch is located behind the shift lever.
Manual application or release of parking
brake
After the vehicle is parked stably, when the
engine is running or shutdown, you can pull up
the control switch to apply the EPB. At this time,
the EPB indicator lamp on the instrument
cluster and the indicator lamp on the control
switch will light up, and the message “EPB on”
will be shown on the instrument cluster.
Before leaving the vehicle, please confirm that
the EPB ON indicator lamp on the
instrument cluster comes on.
When the ENGINE START/STOP button is set
to “ON” position or the engine is running,
depress the brake pedal, move the shift lever out
of “R” position (only for HEVs) and press the
control switch to release the EPB. At this time,
the EPB indicator lamp on the instrument
cluster and the indicator lamp on the control
switch will go out, and the message “EPB off”
will be shown on the instrument cluster.
If the brake pedal is not depressed first, EPB can
not be released and the information “Please
depress brake pedal to release EPB” will be
shown on the display.
Automatic application or release of parking
brake
After the vehicle is parked stably, when the
ENGINE START/STOP button is set to “OFF”
position, the parking brake will be applied
automatically.
After fastening the seat belt and closing the
driver's door, set the shift lever to D or R
position, and then depress the accelerator pedal
lightly. After the vehicle moves, the parking
brake will be released automatically.
After the vehicle is parked stably, when the
engine is running and the shift lever is set to D or
R position, do not depress the accelerator pedal
because it may release the parking brake.
Before driving, be sure that the brake system
warning lamp is off. When any fault is found in
the EPB or battery and the parking brake can not
be released by operating the control switch,
please contact the authorized dealer for
inspection.
● When EPB is applied or released, it is
normal that you may hear a sound of
motor operation, which indicates that EPB
is in working normally.
● If there is a burning smell or noise after
emergency braking, it may be caused by
system failure. Please contact the
authorized dealer for inspection.
● Do not apply EPB when the vehicle is
being towed.
● In icy or snowy days, there is a risk that
the parking brake freezes and is difficult
to be released. EPB may not be applied
on flat roads, with driving safety ensured.
Park the vehicle stably and fix the wheels
with stoppers to ensure that the vehicle
does not slide.
● Do not apply the EPB during vehicle
washing in an automatic vehicle washer.
