Use Of Keymaps and Natural Amplitude Envelopes With KVA Oscillators:
KeymapsareimportantinlayersusingKVAoscillators,eventhoughtheirsamplesarenot
usuallyheardintheselayers(seethenotebelowforexceptions.)Keymapselectionisimportant
becausethemaximumamplitudeset
foreachkeyinthekeymapisappliedtotheoscillator.For
mostusesofKVAoscillators,userswillwanttousethe999Silencekeymapbecauseeachkeyin
thekeymapissettothe samemaximum amplitude,unlikemanyinstrumentkeymaps.The999
Silencekeymapensuresuniformamplitude
behaviorofanoscillator,andwiththeamplitude
envelopesettousermode,userscaneasilyshapeallaspectsofanoscillator’samplitude.The
PC3Kalsohastheabilitytoapplynaturalamplitudeenvelopestooscillators.Withanamplitude
envelopesettonaturalmode,eachoscillatornotetakesontheamplitude
qualitiesofeach
sampleinakeymap(witheachnoterelativetosamplekeyplacement.)Eachsampleina
keymaphasanaturalenvelopethatwascreatedduringit’soriginaldevelopmentprocess.
Naturalenvelopeshavemuchmoredetailthanwhatispossibletocreatewiththeuser
amplitudeenvelope,and
theyareusefulwhentryingtomimicspecificinstrumentamplitude
envelopes.Whenusingthis technique,rememberthatthemaximumamplitudeofeachkeyis
setbythecurrentkeymap.Youcanstillcontroltheoverallparametersofanaturalenvelopeby

examplesofKVAlayersthatusethistechnique.Eachprogramusespercussionkeymapswith
naturalenvelopestoproduceafast,percussiveattack.AlsonotethatwhenusingaKVA
oscillatorandakeymapotherthan999Silence,thelayerwillusethenameofthekeymapin
the
infoboxonthemainProgrampage,eventhoughitisnotthetruesoundsourceofthelayer.
