There’saboxattheleftsideofthedisplay.Theinfobox,asit’scalled,displaysinformationabout
thecurrentprogram(there’salsoaninfoboxforSetupmode).
Soft buttons
OnmostPC3Kscreens,thebottomlineofthedisplayidentifiesthefunctionofeachofthe
buttonsbeneaththe
display.Wecallthesebuttonssoftbuttons,becausetheydodifferentthings
dependingonwhat’scurrentlyshowinginthedisplay.
InProgramandQuickAccessmodes,youcanchangeoctaveswiththeOctav ‐andOctav+
buttonsunderthedisplay.TheInfosoftbuttonshowsyourelevantdetailsaboutthecurrent
item.
TheXpose‐/Xpose+buttonsareashortcutforquicktranspositioninsemitone(halfstep)
increments.Youcanusethemtotransp osetheentirePC3Kasmuchasthreeoctavesupor
down.Thetoplineofthedisplayshowsthecurrentamountoftransposition(Xpose).Pressboth
Xposebuttonssimultaneously
toreturntranspositiontozero.
ThePanicbutton(oradoublepressofCancelandEnteratthebottomofthe alphanumeric
keypad)sendsanAllNotesOffmessageandanAllControllersOffmessage—bothtothePC3K
andoverall16MIDIchannels.Youwon’tneeditoften,butit’s
nicetohave.
VAST Programs
A“normal”VASTprogramiswhatmostofthefactoryprogramsare.Theinfoboxcontains
detailsaboutthedifferentlayersineachprogram,usuallyindicatingthekeymapusedineach
layer.Thelineunderthekeymapnameindicatesthelayer’skeyboardrange.Inthiscase,only
thefirsttwodisplayed
layersextendacrosstheentirekeyboard(A 0toC8).The×symboltothe
rightofeachlayershowsthatthekeymapisastereokeymap.
KB3 Programs
KB3(organ)programsdifferfromVASTprogramsinthattheydon’thavelayers.Insteadthey
relyonoscillatorsthatmimicthetonewheelsusedinmanypopularorgans.Consequently,the
infoboxshowsonlythewaveformusedintheprogram.Becauseoftheirarchitecture,KB3
programsrequiredifferentprocessingwithinthe
PC3K.KB3programsplayonlyonasingle
channelatatime(VASTprogramswillworkfineonthatchannel,too).
ThequickestwaytogettotheKB3programsisbypressingtheKB3buttonthat’sabovethe
sliders.
