Algorithm Basics
TheCascademodealgorithms(verymuchliketriplemodeonaK2600)startatID101.Notein
theabovefigureshowalgorithm101looksverysimilartoalgorithm1.EachCa scade mode
algorithmcorrespondstoitsnoncascadeequivalent,whichhasthesameIDnumberminus100.
Forexample,algorithm
105isacascademodeversionofalgorithm5.OntheAlgpage,select
whichlayeryouwanttohaverunningthroughyourcascadelayerwiththeAltInputparameter.
MakesuretoturndowntheAmpvolumeonyoursourcelayersifyouonlywanttohearwhatʹs
comingoutofthefinalcascadelayer.
Dynamic VAST
TheDynamicVASTeditorisyetanotherparticularlypowerfulfeatureofthePC3Kthatallows
youtoeditthewiringofanalgorithm.WithDynamicVAST,literallythousandsofwiring
schemesarepossible.UsingCascademodeinconjunctionwithDynamicVASTgivesyoualmost
infinitecontroloveryourprogram’ssoundand
behaviorbyenablingyoutocreateyourown
unique,complexalgorithms.
ToentertheDynamicVASTeditor,selecttheALG(Algorithm)pagebypressingtheALGsoft
button.HighlighttheAlgorithmparameter,selectanalgorithm,andpresstheeditbutton.This
actioncallsuptheEditAlgorithm(EditAlg)pageinwhich
youcaneditthewiringofthe
selectedalgorithm.
Inadditiontohavingaselectablefunction,eachfunctionblockhasthreeeditableparameters:
numberofinputs,numberofoutputs,andblocksize(theOutputModeparameterisaneditable
parameterofthealgorithmasawhole).Whenyoufirstenterthe
EditAlgpage,therewillbea
cursorintheparameterfield,andthefirstblockofthealgorithmwillbehighlighted.Toselecta
blockforediting,movethecursordownthedisplayuntilnoparameterfieldishighlighted;
then,usingthe<and>buttons,highlighttheblockyou
wishtoedit.Pressthe^buttontomove
thecursorbackintotheparameterfields,andthenselecttheparameteryouwishtoedit.
TheOutputModeparameterdeterminesthenumberofoutputsfromthealgorithm.With
OutputModesettoNormal,thealgorithmhasoneoutput.WithOutputMode
settoSep.L/R,
thealgorithmhastwooutputs,eachofwhichissenttoaseparatestereochannel.
Toeditthesignalpath,selecteitheraninputofablockoranoutputoftheentirealgorithm.By
scrollingwithAlphaWheelortheand+buttons,you
canseeeverypossibleconfigurationfor
thatselectedsignalpath.
