Programming(editing)thePC3Kalwaysinvolvesthreebasicoperations:modeselection,
navigation,anddataentry.
First,selectthemodethatrelatestotheobjectyouwanttoedit—aprogram,asetup,etc.Then
selecttheobjectyouwanttoedit,and presstheEditbuttontoentertheeditorwithinthat
mode.
Forprograms,setups,songs,andquickaccessbanks,theseobjectsare“selected”whenyouare
onthemainpageoftheircorrespondingmode.InthesecasesyoucanpresstheEditbuttonwith
anythingselectedontheirmainpagetoaccesstheireditor.Oftentherewillbemoreobjects
inside
ofthese“mainpage”editors,suchasshiftpatternsandvelocitypatterns,andtheycanbe
editedbyselectingtheirparameterwiththecursorandpressingtheEditbutton.Aneditor
containsalltheparametersthatdefinetheobjectyou’reprogramming.
Next,younavigatearoundtheeditorspage(s)withthesoft
buttons,andselectparameterswith
thecursor(arrow)buttons.Whenyou’veselectedaparameter(itsvalueishig hlightedbythe
cursor),youcanchangeitsvaluewithoneofthedataentrymethods.Whenyouchangeavalue,
you’llnormallyhearitseffectontheobjectyoureediting.ThePC3K
doesn’tactuallywriteyour
editingchangestomemoryuntilyousavetheobjectyou’reworkingon.Itthenallowsyouto
choosebetweenwritingovertheoriginalobject,orstoringthenewlyeditedversioninanew
memorylocation.
What’s an Object?
Ifyouvebeenwonderingwhatwemeanbytheterm“object,”it’sanexpressionweusefor
anythingthatcanbenamed,saved,deleted,oredited.Here’salistofallthetypesofobjects:
Programs FactorypresetoruserprogrammedsoundsstoredinROMorflash
memory.Aprogramisoneor
morelayersofsound,withprogrammable
DSPfunctionsappliedtothekeymapswithineachlayer.
Algorithms FactorypresetoruserprogrammedV.A .S .T.DSPFunctionsstoredin
ROMorflashmemory.AnAlgorithmcontainstheDSPconfigurationand
settingsthatareusedinaprogram.
Setups FactorypresetoruserprogrammedMIDIperformance
presetsconsisting
ofupto16zones,eachwithitsownprogram,MIDIchannel,and
controllerassignments,and(optionally)arpeggiationspecifications.
Songs Sequencefilesloadedintomemory,orMIDIdatarecordedinSongmode.
Chains FactorypresetoruserprogrammedconfigurationsofthePC3K’s
onboarddigitalaudioeffectsprocessor.
QuickAccessbanks Factorypreset
oruserprogrammedbanksoftenentrieseach,thatstore
programsandsetupsforsinglebuttonaccessinQuickAccessmode.
Intonationmaps Factorypresetoruserprogrammedpitchoffsetsforeachnoteinall
octaves.Setfrommastermode,intonationmapsareusedtochangethe
PC3K’sintonationinall
modes.
