ThetrackselectedastheRecTrkwilldisplayan(R),designatingitastherecordingtrack.Ifthe
RecTrkissettoMult,initiallyallemptytrackswillhaveRecord(R)asaTrackStatusIndicator,
anyofwhichcanbeswitchedbacktoempty(–)ifatanytime
recordingonspecifictracksisnot
desired.
Ifthereisn’t atrackwithan(R),theRecTrkparametersvaluewillbeNone.(Theexceptionis
whentheRecTrkissettoMultandyouhaveswitchedallofthetracksoutofrecordenable.)
Track Channels
EachtrackhasaMIDIChannelthatitusestoreceiveandtransmitdata.Bydefault,tracks1–16
ofanewsongareassignedtoChannels1–16respectively,althoughatrackcanplayorrecordon
anychannelandthesamechannelcanbeusedformorethanonetrack.Keep
inmind,however,
thatonlyoneprogramcanbeassignedtoachannelatatime,soifyouhavemorethanonetrack
assignedtothesamechannel,they’llplaythesameprogram—theoneonthe highernumbered
track,sincethat’sthemostrecentProg ramChangecommandreceivedon
thatchannel.
Soft Buttons on the MAIN Page
Thissectioncontainsdescriptionsofthefunctionsofthe functionsoftbuttons,thatis,the
buttonswithlabelsnotinallcaps.Aswithallothermodes,thesoftbuttonsinSongModethat
havelabelsinallcapscallupdifferentpages.Seethefollowingsectionsfordescriptionsonhow
thesepageswork.
The Rec, Play, and Stop Soft Buttons
NOTE:Thesebuttonsaresimilartothetransportcontrolsonatapedeck.Someofthosedecksrequireyou
topressPlayandRecordsimultaneouslytobeginrecording.ThePC3K’stransportbuttonsaren’tlike
that,however.It’simportantthatyoupressonlyoneof
thesesoftbuttonsatatimetoinsureproper
recordingstartpoints,andtoalwaysbesureofthecurrentsequencerstatus.
TheRecsoftbuttonchangestheSongStatustoREC.READYifthecurrentSongStatusis
STOPPED.IfthecurrentSongStatusisPLAYING,itwillbeswitched
toRECORDINGwhenyou
pressRec.
ThePlaysoftbuttonplaysbackanyrecordeddatawhenpressedwhilethesongstatusis
STOPPED.PlaybackwillbeginfromthebarandbeatspecifiedintheLocateparameter.When
theSongStatusisRECREADY,pressingthePlaysoftbuttonwillbeginrecording.
ThePlaysoftbuttonfunctionsasaPausebutton,butonlywhentheSongStatusisPLAYINGor
RECORDING.PressingPlaywhilethesongisplayingwillstoptheplayback,andthelocation
remainsatthecurrentbarandbeat,allowingyoutocontinuefromthatlocationbypressing
Playagain.
PressingPausewhilerecordingwillstoptherecordingprocessasifyouhadpressedStop.
TheStopsoftbuttonhaltstheplaybackorrecording,andresetsthesong’slocationtoeitherthe
defaultBar 1, Beat1value,ortowhateverlocationyoudefinedwiththeLocateparameter.Ifthe
locationisdefined
assomethingotherthanBar1,Beat1,pressStoptwicetoresetto1:1.
PressingStopwhentheSongStatusisRECORDING willalwayspromptthe“Savechangesto
thissong?”dialog(describedbelow),andprovidesyouwiththeopportunitytolistentothenew
songandcompareit
withtheold,previouslysaved,songbeforeansweringYesorNo.
ThePC3KalsohasdedicatedfrontpanelbuttonsforRecord,Play/Pause,andStop.Youllfind
themjustbelowtheeightmodebuttons.Additionallyyoucancontrolthesefunctionsfromany
externalsequencerthatsendsMIDIMachineControl
(MMC)messages.ThePC3Kwill
automaticallylistentoanyMMCmessagesreceivedattheUSBorMIDIinport.ThePC3Kwill
alsoautomaticallysenditsownMMCmessagesfromtheUSBandMIDIoutport,enablingthe
