Setup Mode
The Control Setup
Insummary,physicalcontrollerdestinations,theircurvesandstates,andtheArpeggiator
parametersalldefinecontrollerassignmentsforprogramsinProgrammode.Theother
parametershavenoeffect;thiskeepsProgrammoderelativelysimple.Programmodeletsyou
changevaluesfortransposition,MIDIchannels,andprogramsindependentlyofthecontrol
setup.
Onceyousavechangestothecontrolsetup,thosechangeswillaffectallprogramswhenyouare
inProgrammode.Forexample,programmingtheLargeRibboninthecontrolsetuptohave
threesectionswillmeanthatineveryprograminProgrammode,youwillhaveathree‐section
LargeRibbon.
Youmaywanttoprogramseveraldifferentcontrolsetups,andswitchamongthemfordifferent
applications.
Zone-status LEDs in Setup Mode
Takeaminutetoscrollthroughsomeofthefactorysetups.Asyouchangesetups,you’llnotice
thattheLEDsintheeightbuttonsabovetheprogrammableslidersgoonandoffandchange
color.TheseLEDsindicatethestatusofeachofthezonesinthesetup.Youmayalso
seetheSolo
buttongoon.Thismeansthatthesetupisconfiguredtohaveonlyonezoneplayingwhenyou
selectit.
Whileyou’reinSetupmode,eachoftheeightzone‐statusLEDswillalwaysbeinoneoffour
states:
Off Emptyzone—thatis,azonethathasno
programorMIDIchannelassociatedwithit.
Forexample,ifyouselectasetupandonlyfou r status LEDslightup(regardlessof
theircolor),thesetupcontainsjustfourzones.Wheneveryou’reinSetupmode,the
numberoflinesinthe infoboxmatchesthenumberofzone‐statusLEDs
thatarelit.
Green Activezone.Aslongasnootherzoneissoloed,anactivezoneplaysnotes—and
generatescontrollerinformation,programchanges,andentry/exitcontrollervalues.If
anotherzoneissoloed,anactivezoneis“backgrounded”—it’sstatusLEDremains
green,butitdoesn’tplaynotesorgeneratecontrollerinformation.
Orange Mutedzone.Muted zonesdon’tplaynotesorgeneratecontrollerinformation,but
theydogenerateprogramchangesandentry/exitcontrollervalues.
Red Solozone.Asyoumighthaveguessed,onlyonezonecanbesoloedatatime.Whena
zoneissoloed,onlythatzoneplaysnotesandgeneratescontrollerinformation.
Other
zones,ifthey’renotturnedoff,stillgenerateprogramchanges and
entry/exitcontrollervalues.Ifazoneismutedandthensubsequentlysoloed,allother
zonesare“backgrounded”butthesoloedzoneremainsmuted.
Inperformancesituations,thezone‐statusbuttonsprovideaconvenientwaytotemporarily
changethestatus
ofoneormorezones.Thiscanbeveryeffectiveforbringingvoicesand/or
controllerconfigurationsintoandoutofyourperformance.Thebestwaytogetfamiliarwith
thistechniqueistoplaywiththebuttons,asthenextfewparagraphsdescribe.
Selectasetup(lookforonewithlots
ofactivezonesthatcoverthewholekeyboard),andplaya
fewbars.You’llhearsoundscorrespondingtoeachoftheactivezones(greenLEDs).Ifyousee
anymutedzones(orangeLEDS),presstheirzone‐statusbuttons,andthey’llbecomeactive;
conversely,ifyoupressthezone‐statusbuttonof
anactivezone,itwillbecomemuted.Play
aroundabit.Trymutingallthezones,thenbringingthembackonebyoneuntilallthezonesin
thesetupareactive.
