4. In Release 6, switches S2-1 though S2-4 are used to control the identifica-
tion of the DCC for open systems interconnection (OSI) interworking. For a
given optical span, the network elements that terminate on each side of the
optical span must have their "network side"/"user side" parameters set to
opposite values to avoid an "inconsistent DCC switches" alarm.
Switch S2 is set to OFF for the Network Side and ON for the User Side. In
linear releases switch S2-1 is associated with the OLIUs in the MAIN slots,
switch S2-2 is associated with the OLIUs in the FUNCTION UNIT A slots,
switch S2-3 is associated with the OLIUs in the FUNCTION UNIT B slots,
and switch S2-4 is associated with the OLIUs in the FUNCTION UNIT C
slots. The following figure illustrates the S2 switch settings for switches
associated with OLIUs in the MAIN and FUNCTION UNITS slots at each
end of the interconnected optical spans for linear/hub configurations.
