18 Automatic Wheel Balancer (SBS 4500)
A primary cause of vibration in the grinding machine is the existence of imbalance in the grinding
wheel. Imbalance is often due to the nature of grinding wheel construction.
A wheel contains great numbers of unevenly distributed grains, which cause an intrinsic imbalance.
This imbalance will be compounded by eccentric mounting of the wheel, varying width of the wheel,
imbalance in the spindle arbor and coolant absorption into the wheel.
Due to wear and frequent dressing of the wheel periphery, the rotational dynamics of a grinding
wheel are always changing. Therefore, dynamic balancing of the grinding wheel is considered to be
an essential step in the production process.
