4.12.4 USING THE LOCK FUNCTION
The LOCK function is used to unlock or lock the remote port. When the remote port is locked, setup
changes cannot be made remotely. This prevents accidental or unauthorized system setup changes
through the remote port.
To unlock a multiplexer through the remote port, the user must send the proper command and
password. The user selects a password during setup; it can be any combination of letters and numbers
up to 16 characters in length. Paragraph 5.8 of this manual describes how to set up and use passwords.
The lock function has no effect on local operation. This allows a multiplexer to be unlocked locally
(using the GROUP and SET/NEXT toggle switches), even if its password has been lost.
To access the Lock function directly, proceed as follows:
1. Select the SIO group using the GROUP switch.
2. Press down on the SET/NEXT switch until Lock is displayed.
As mentioned above, the Lock function can also be accessed from the PAR
subgroup by displaying its "exit" function and pressing up on the SET/ NEXT
switch.
3. When the display shows Lock, the green part of the ON/OFF indicator lights if the multiplexer
remote port is locked, and the red part lights if it is unlocked. To toggle the remote port from
locked to unlocked (or unlocked to locked), press up twice on the SET/NEXT switch.
To exit the Lock function and display the BAUD subgroup, press down on the SET/NEXT switch. To
exit the SIO group entirely, press up or down on the GROUP switch.
