FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
MODULE OVERVIEW
The RFL DA-291B Four-Port Asynchronous Data Module is a channel card for use in the RFL IMUX
2000 line of products. Each of the four ports has independent channel settings. The module supports
V.110 and V.14 protocol specifications and will therefore communicate with similar type modules by
other manufacturers (i.e. NOKIA™). The DA-291B transmits and receives data from/to the T1/E1 bus
and generates and receives data via an I/O module adapter. Two or four port adapters that support
RS-232 or RS-422 interfaces are available. There are several data rates supported between 600 and
38400 baud, using an entire timeslot or a portion of a timeslot. The DA-291B module can be set-up
and interrogated remotely via the SCB of the IMUX 2000. The RFL NMS (Network Management
Software) provides a user friendly Windows™ interface for settings of the DA-291B module.
Optionally, DIP switches enable the user to set-up the module locally. Front panel LED’s will indicate
the status of each port to the user.
SIGNAL BUFFERING CPLD
The Signal Buffering CPLD consists of a Xilinx XC9572XL used to buffer the signals that pass
between the Actel and the RFL IMUX 2000 Motherboard. These signals include the T1/E1 bus signals
and the pass-thru signals to/from the I/O. It is important to note that the Xilinx is +3V/+5V signal
compatible, and therefore provides the necessary level translation between the motherboard signals
and the Actel which only supports 3.3V signals.
I/O ADAPTER MODULES
The signals to/from the user equipment pass through the I/O Adapter Module. The I/O module
performs the required level shifting between the DA-291B and the user equipment, thus allowing the
same channel card to be used with any one of several types of communication interface I/O adapter
modules. There are three I/O types currently available:
2-port RS-232, 4-port RS-232 and 2-port RS-422.
COMMS FPGA
The Comms FPGA consists of an Actel ProASIC APA-450 which is the heart of the DA-291B module.
It has several main functions which include Transmit interface, receive interface, SCB interface, Baud
generator, and local /remote loop-backs.
